Alderney’s Final Panel of the Bayeux Tapestry

It is a little known fact that the Bayeux Tapestry is incomplete. Most experts now believe that a piece between 8-10 feet depicting the coronation of William I would have been included in the original work.

The Channel Island of Alderney delivers the missing chapter with a plausible conclusion on a beautifully embroidered panel measuring just less than 3 metres in length, this community project attracted 400 stitchers, not only residents but visitors too, including the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The Alderney Final Panel of the Bayeux Tapestry will be on display at the Bayeux Tapestry Museum alongside the original from 1st July to mid-September 2014. It is believed to be the first time a finale attempt has been displayed in the same museum as the original.
