Guernsey Post’s philatelic bureau is delighted to announce that colourful Guernsey and Alderney folders containing each islands’ entire 2024 stamp issues will be available to purchase from 1 December.
Each of the folders contains every stamp set released this year for each island, including souvenir and miniature sheets, along with the stamp specification details and mint stamps.
The Guernsey folder includes several commemorative issues including stamps honouring the bicentenary of the RNLI and 150 years of the Universal Postal Union. Closer to home, stamps were released to mark the centenary of Sarnia Arts & Crafts Club, the Bailiwick’s longest running arts society, and the 150th anniversary of the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).
Other highlights include Year of the Dragon stamps released as part of Guernsey’s Chinese New Year series; stamps showcasing Guernsey’s beauty with Europa Underwater Flora and Fauna, and self-stick stamps depicting Day and Night photographic island scenes; and a miniature sheet (subject to Royal Approval) depicting His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla on their visit to Guernsey on Tuesday 16 July 2024 – their first visit since His Majesty’s Accession to the throne.
The Alderney Folder includes delightful stamps featuring the island’s iconic post boxes. In 1980, they changed from red and were painted a distinctive blue colour to complement Guernsey Post’s new branding and have remained unchanged ever since.
Commemorative issues also feature with stamps released to mark the 300th anniversary of Les Casquets Lighthouse, located off the Alderney coast, along with stamps to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bagpuss – the most important, the most beautiful, the most magical saggy old cloth cat in the whole wide world. The British classic children’s series captured the nation’s hearts and became one of the best loved children’s programmes of all time.
Completing both sets are this year’s light-hearted Guernsey and Alderney Christmas stamps, designed by local artists and featuring snowmen on their travels to well-known locations in Guernsey and Alderney.
